OPA Greek Restaurant, a Little Piece of Greece in Newcastle upon Tyne, UK

Though the Greek community of Newcastle upon Tyne, UK, is a little smaller than the likes of the US and Canada, that hasn’t stopped Greeks here from flourishing and showing off their food.

OPA Greek Restaurant is just one of the Greek culinary gems Newcastle has to offer, owned by husband and wife team and my family friends, Georgios Liakris and Alexia Gkini.

I grew up with their dishes, and let me tell you, their lamb Kleftiko and Kokkinisto are excellent. They remind me of the feasts my Yiayia always prepares for us when we visit Greece. A true taste of home! And just when you thought it couldn’t get more Mediterranean, OPA also serves Italian dishes, including Pizza and Risotto.

Their service is always warm and friendly, never failing to make my family and I feel at home each time we dine with them. And, being host to many Greek Nights with live music and lots of dancing, OPA is a little piece of Greece away from Greece. From their food to the atmosphere, they’ll have you saying “OPA!”

You can check out OPA from their website and be sure to like their Facebook page, too!

Hi Melina, a lovely review of our favourite restaurant. The Kokkinisto is great and Mrs B loves the Paidakkia. It really is North Shields’ best kept secret. Good to see you’re getting a career in writing.

Are you the same restaurant owners as North Sields one?
